Marketing, Business and the Art of Photography is the tag-line for a new newsletter designed for photographers in business for themselves. Successful Photographer is written with the small to medium size studio in mind. According to Bob Coates, founder and editor of Successful Photographer Newsletter, "Photographers have been learning their marketing and business techniques from other photographers, who learned their techniques from photographers, who learned from... You get the idea. This has led to a bit of inbreeding as far as keeping the ideas fresh, new and effective for photography businesses." Successful Photographer will strive to help studios get their message out to new clients and better serve their current customers by providing articles from leading, cutting edge, proven marketing photographers within the industry. Even more important, gathering marketing and business ideas from outside the photographic industry. It's been said that marketing is marketing no matter what the business is. Using that philosophy, Successful Photographer will be checking out other industries for marketing and business ideas that can help make photography businesses run smoother and earn more money. The idea for the newsletter came about because Coates was talking with many new photography studios and finding them struggling to get their business off the ground. Inquiring about their marketing techniques he found there were few or no plans in place. At the same time he started studying direct mail marketing techniques, scouring the sales and marketing information at bookstores and checking in with industries such as carpet cleaners and hair salons. "I was amazed at all the ideas I was finding that i'd never even heard about. And I've been known for my shameless self promotion and marketing. I figured if I hadn't come across the ideas most photographers probably have not either," said Bob. Bob has been using our proofing DVD services and came up with some great ideas for how other photographers can utilize our product better in their marketing and sales. In our day to day contact with photographers one of the big needs we see is help with studios getting their marketing on track. I see the newsletter being key to photographers getting some of the help they need provided they just don't read it - but implement the ideas being shared in the newsletter." Successful Photographer will be tapping into the forward thinking photographers who are on the cutting edge of marketing & business today. "I'll be interviewing, writing about and obtaining articles from people in the hair salon, carpet cleaning businesses direct mail marketers and more." Names like John Dijulias, Debbie Allen, Dan Kennedy and more. Names like these that you might not recognize, but they have a world of great ideas we can use in our businesses." As a part of the Successful Photographer experience - audio interviews with our writers will be presented on CD. This will enable photographers to learn while commuting in their cars. The great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar called this "Going to Windshield University." Not quite so advanced as Mr Ziglar we use the term "Heading to Car College." Whatever name you use, it takes "Down Time" in your vehicle and makes it productive.
